Brands Enjoy Huge Sales Growth During JD.com’s 2023 Singles’ Day Grand Promotion

JD.com’s Singles’ Day Grand Promotion has attracted a huge level of customer activity.  In 2023, JD.com offered its customers over 800 million competitively priced products with price protection.

Highlights include:

  • In 30 minutes Levi’s matched the number of sales it made on the same day in 2022.
  • UGG and ecco doubled their transaction volumes.
  • Lululemon’s online store trebled its transaction volumes.
  • 15 watch brands experienced increased volumes of more than 200% during the first week of the promotion. These brands included Seiko, Breitling, and Tissot.

The 10-Billion Discount Program

The “10-Billion Discount Program” was launched on October 31, 2023. This program reached transaction volumes of over 100 million yuan in under four minutes.

More Than 2,000 Industrial Belt Collaborations

Hundreds of thousands of agricultural products were very popular during the Grand Promotion. JD Super, JD Retail’s Supermarket, collaborated with over 2,000 industrial belts. These collaborations fueled sales across the agriculture category.

Some of the most popular products included Fujian province’s dried yellow croaker and Yunnan province’s corn. While the croaker saw year-on-year growth of 300%, the corn saw year-on-year growth of 237%. JD.com’s “9.9-Yuan Items With Free Shipping” program made these products particularly appealing to consumers.

As a result of these important industry belt collaborations, the number of merchants involved in the promotion increased by significant amounts across most categories. These categories included fittings and hardware (150%), home appliances and furniture (141%), and apparel (248%).

New National Pavilions Representing Mongolia and Finland

During the 2023 promotion, JD.com launched new national pavilions for Mongolia and Finland. The pavilions provide JD.com’s customers with direct access to authentic, quality products from these countries.

Battsetseg Batmunkh, Mongolia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the Mongolian Pavilion launch on November 8 at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai. The Mongolian pavilion offers around 60 products, including:

  • 100% cashmere scarves.
  • Sea buckthorn juice.
  • Sengur White beer.
  • Limited-edition vodka from the Mount Bogda springs.

Sari Essayah, Finland’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, and Leena-Kaisa Mikkola, the Finnish Ambassador to China, attended the Finland Pavilions launch on November 9 at the  residence of the Ambassador of Finland in Beijinge.

The pavilions include the Finland National Pavilion (for general trade imports) and the Finland Overseas Pavilion (for cross-border trade). Both offer an extensive variety of Finnish lifestyle, food, and skincare products.

On-Demand Retail Proves Popular

On-demand retail, including one-hour delivery, was popular with consumers during the promotion.  JD.com collaborated with over 400,000 brick-and-mortar stores (double 2022 numbers) as part of its on-demand retail business.

This allowed customers in over 2,200 Chinese counties and districts to receive deliveries of products within minutes. This Shop Now program experienced a 60% year-on-year increase in the number of customers placing orders demonstrating the popularity of  this rapid delivery service with consumers.

This initiative was developed out of research in 2021 initiated by Richard Liu’s JD.com which identified the growing demand for 24/7 on-demand services.

Excellence In Logistics

On the first day of the Grand Promotion, a Bosideng down jacket was China’s 100 billionth express-delivery parcel. JD Logistics dispatched the parcel from its flagship Qingdao Industrial Park.

JD Logistics’ excellent infrastructure ensures that the company delivers 95% of all retail orders within 24 hours. More than 10 million products are available for same-day delivery.

During the promotion, JD Cloud experienced a 170% increase in peak user visits per second compared to the same period in 2022. JD Cloud’s intelligent customer service handled over 1.4 billion enquiries.

Ochama, JD.com’s omnichannel retail brand in Europe, expanded its delivery service to 24 European countries. Selected shop pick-up points extended their operating hours until 10 p.m. across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. This allowed customers to collect orders late into the evening.
